Black Dog - Grassy Creek

The house is just as pictured with all conveniences in a peaceful setting high on a mountain. A great deck surrounds the house with a swinging chair to enjoy the beauty and the large windows inside make you feel like you are outside. There is a lengthy, gravel road to reach the house. Having arrived two weeks after the hurricane, we were impressed that the downed trees were cleared and cones indicated a gully on the pavement.

Very quite and comfortable home. Very clean. Beds a little soft if you like really firm. we enjoyed the walk on the property and the front deck. Needs a little better lighting for night time reading. Pretty much in the middle if you want to go into West Jefferson or over to Grayson Highlands. I would highly recommend this place for anyone needing to get away and relax.

Perfectly sized cabin for 2-4 people and the porch was fantastic. Quite secluded, yet easy to navigate in and out. Also, closer to West Jefferson and Grayson Highlands. Would definitely stay there again.

Black Dog Grassy Creek is cozy, clean, and perfectly nestled against a wooded hill in a lovely setting! The furniture is comfortable and clean feeling. The hardwood floors and vaulted ceiling were beautiful. I enjoyed sitting on the deck with my Bible listening to the leaves blowing and birds chirping. I highly recommend this lovely home! It had everything we needed! My family and I made apple butter together and enjoyed time just being together. It was also close to Grayson Highlands where we spent one afternoon! This is a place I would love to return to!

My family and I really enjoyed staying at the Black Dog cabin in Grassy Creek. It was very comfortable and nicely appointed with quick access to Grayson Highlands and the Mt. Rogers area. The cabin location was very peaceful and remote, which is exactly what we were looking for to take a break from hectic everyday life. We would definitely stay here again. Great check-in/out process and Stay Blue Ridge was very helpful in making a last minute change. Great experience, highly recommend!

We had a great time. Exactly as described. we had an issue with the trash from the previous renter. But when brought to your attention was immediate remediated. Loved the "siting" of the house and all the deck space. Very serene! Already have another booking for 2023. Otherwise we would love to come back. See you in 2024. GOD WILLING!! Bill and Pat Hoban.

We were so blessed and grateful to be able to enjoy the magnificent Black Dog-Grassy Creek Cabin once again. Having stayed there briefly last fall we knew we wanted to return this summer and spend our 40th anniversary week. It could not have been more wonderful! Once again, we found this beautiful, spacious and secluded cabin to be meticulously clean... which sadly, is rare in today's vacation rental "world". Even deep-in-the-woods, the cabin was free from cobwebs, etc. which is so rare. As a person who loves to cook special meals while on vacation, the large well-equipped and wonderfully organized kitchen was a dream. I greatly appreciate the high-quality of all the dinnerware, pots and pans, utensils and glassware... so unlike the "garage-sale" quality items that are too frequently found in many rental cabins. During our previous fall stay, the weather made it impossible for us to enjoy the beautiful and massive decks. During this visit we were able to fully take advantage of them - spending hours reading; watching the deer run along the ridge as the sun rose and set; and enjoying a family of baby birds in their nest in the eaves. We also enjoyed our trips into W. Jefferson where we visited the farmer's market and the interesting shops, and enjoyed a number of the restaurants – Havana Café is a MUST! We also were in awe of the beauty and history that surrounded us as we traveled the endless backroads – and our side-trips to Grayson Highlands and Stone Mountain State Parks were definite highpoints. Finally, we'd like to thank the Stay Blue Ridge team for their responsiveness and professionalism. It was our privilege and greatest joy to be able to be able to once again enjoy this wonderful cabin with our dog - and we can't wait to return!

I was lucky enough to stay in this cabin for 4 months and I will never forget this magical place. I was there from mid Feb. to mid. June and the beauty of watching the trees come back to life from the incredible windows was indescribable! The fireplace and giant deck are awesome and I couldn't have been happier during my time at Black Dog. So grateful that this cabin is a rental so that more people can experience the magic of this space. I loved it there!!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Black Dog cabin. The cabin was very clean and has a very nice cozy feel. We loved the location, and liked the privacy. And the hiking trail map was an added bonus! Will definitely stay at this cabin again. Perfection would be if it had a hot tub on those beautiful huge decks. Jerrita and her staff were excellent as always in getting our arrangements made on short notice. Always a joy doing business with them.

The large windows in the house provided a wonderful view. The deck is massive - there is plenty of room for outdoor entertainment. We loved having the large fireplace for cozy evenings. The house is well equipped, clean, and modern. I would love to visit again sometime soon! We're thinking of going in the middle of winter just to sit by the fire and watch for deer!

Over the years we have stayed at many, many vacation rentals. But never before have we walked out of a property and said… No!... we would not change a THING – except to stay LONGER!!!! This was a last-minute trip for us, at the peak of the busy fall travel time. Therefore, we greatly appreciated Miranda’s help – quickly answering our questions and accommodating a special request. The pictures of this “cabin” do not capture the beauty of its magnificent, wonderfully-wooded, secluded setting; nor its interior design with its breathtaking views, perfect 1-story layout and tasteful, but oh-so-comfortable décor. And, everything was spotless! – never before have we stayed in a wood-beamed, high-ceilinged/windowed property that had NO cobwebs! The kitchen was well-stocked and neatly organized; and the perfectly clean propane grill on the deck was a joy to cook on! Although our stay was short, we enjoyed our trip to Grayson Highlands State Park and hike to see the wild ponies; exploring the beautiful backroads; a delicious lunch at the Havana Café’; and picking-out cheese and other goodies at the Ashe County Cheese Co. store. But most of all, we loved our time at the cabin!... watching both the sun and moon rise over, and light-up the treetops; relaxing on the amazing decks, listening to the birds and seeing deer chase each other along the ridge-top; walking our dog (who clearly loved his stay!); and especially - being lazy next to the cozy fireplace! Thanks for giving us the privilege of enjoying the wonderful Black Dog! We hated having to leave; but can’t wait until we are able to return.

Such a beautiful property!!!! It is out in the middle of nowhere but, the drive into West Jefferson is easy. Great in between location of West Jefferson and Grayson Highlands State Park. The only negative, which is nothing really, just a suggestion, is to have a larger trash can since we have to take our trash out. We checked out on a Sunday so this was not necessary but we filled are can up pretty quick. Overall, great trip and highly recommend!!!

Very private, secluded location. Our children 5,11,&13 loved exploring the surrounding woods. House was immaculate. Everything we needed was there. Booking was easy, as was check-in/out. We’ll definitely return.

This property is so relaxing! It is located far away from everything- 25 minute drive to grocery store! The area is so quiet- a great place to get away from it all! There is a hiking trail behind the house which goes to the top of a nearby hill. We spent a lot of time on the spacious decks enjoying the forest views!

Great place to in the middle of the mountains. You are by yourself, but 20- to 25 minutes to nearest stores. Great to move around hiking areas, fishing, and canoeing. Recommended.

We loved staying in the private location of Black Dog. We were close enough to groceries and restaurants, but far enough away to enjoy being surrounded by nature. We traveled about 20 minutes north into Virginia to Grayson Highlands State Park where we hiked to see the wild ponies that live there. We explored and went to dinner in West Jefferson, a very cute town. I enjoyed cooking and sitting by the fire in the evening. This was a great rental and I could see us visiting it again in the future!��

The pictures do not do it justice. It was just big enough for us and our pups but small enough for it to be cozy and romantic. We wish we had another day to just stay in and enjoy the cabin. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck as the dogs explored near by. The house had everything you would think you might need should you want to cook, start a fire, or blow dry your hair. The property seemed to be new or just very well kept. Loved the layout and the decor, I could definitely live here. I loved the large window at the front of the property, we watched deer coming through in the mornings and go over the ridge. They are so much bigger than I imagined. We went into West Jefferson for groceries and breakfast. Cute little town, make sure to check out The Vintage Farmhouse which is across the street from a great local breakfast spot, Sweet Louise's Cafe. If you're up for some good food and fun convo head over to Piney Creek and check out Red Dog Bistro(about 25) min away. The road up to the property can be slippery so make sure you have 4WD. Other than that get ready to enjoy your stay!

The cabin is definitely on the road less traveled but such a serene and lovely place. Don’t be nervous about the off the path road it’s easy to navigate even in the snow. We enjoyed all the comforts of modern day life and the gorgeous quiet of this little retreat! Would highly recommend. Our kiddos enjoyed the snow fall and built some fun sled runs amongst the gorgeous trees. The small town of West Jefferson is close by and worth the trip. Overall we would highly recommend this property.

We stayed at the Black Dog the weekend before Thanksgiving in order to go a Choose & Cut to pick out our tree. We loved the peaceful, solitude of the Black Dog Cabin. Our other favorite perks were the wood-burning fireplace, the remodeled bathrooms and kitchen and the privateness of the place. This was a perfect to stay if you have any anglers interested in fishing. Helton Creek was popping with fly fishermen and a great place to explore. Would stay here again!

Imagine driving up to a private and well appointed home in a naturally wooded environment. Then enter a very simple yet elegant home, a cozy fireplace, amazing beds and a wonderful bathroom. You will not
want to leave either. Add in the warmth and attentiveness of the owner and well as I said don’t make us leave. I am not finished yet though! This home is next to Greyson Park(outstanding) cute West Jefferson and booming Boone. Do not miss the opportunity to spend time in a wonderful home in a very natural place.
