King of the Mountain
You’ll feel like the master of all you survey in this large and lovely rental home. Bring the whole family and enjoy the privacy and wide-open spaces of your mountain top. You’ll have views for miles from your wide, covered wrap-around porch, as the pastureland stretches into mountainside, both near and distant. This is the place to relax or entertain, sipping a beverage, reading, chatting, or dining al fresco, while soaking in the serenity of the setting. The view is also stunning from the stone patio, where you’ll gather ‘round the full-size wood-burning fireplace and feel all the stress of the city melt away. It’s so peaceful you’ll likely be inspired to take a nap on the porch hammock during your stay.
On the main level of this spacious cabin, you’ll find the kitchen, dining and great room, as well as two bedrooms and a quaint enclosed sunroom with a twin bed. The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and the shared main-level bathroom has a tub-shower combination.
There’s dining for four on the porch as well as a formal dining table inside, accommodating six. You’ll love the view from the dining room, with the large bay window. The kitchen also looks straight through to the dining room and view. This well-equipped kitchen includes an island and plenty of space, with conveniences like a dishwasher, coffee-maker and microwave.
After an active day of mountain adventure you’ll enjoy coming home and relaxing in front of the big great-room fireplace, with a crackling wood-burning fire warming your soul as well as your body. There’s plenty of comfortable seating here and a TV for entertainment.
Downstairs you’ll find two additional bedrooms, one with a queen and a huge bedroom that includes another queen plus two twin beds. These bedrooms share a full bath with a bathtub-shower combo. There’s also a washer and dryer for your convenience. This home has it all!
Location, Location, Location
The Sunrise Cabin is located in the northern part of Ashe County, near the Virginia border. Here you’re close to Shatley Springs, Mouth of Wilson and the Grayson Highlands State Park. This lovely park is famous for its wild ponies. Come in the spring and you might see the foals. You’ll also enjoy fabulous hiking, a replica of an old-time mountain settlement, an exhibit of the area’s history, and unbelievable views.
From Sunrise Cabin, downtown West Jefferson is less than 25 minutes away. Visitors to this historic town love the shops, galleries, farmer’s market and restaurants, as well as the famous Ashe County Cheese. Craft beer is brewed in town at Boondocks and the New River Brewery, and fine dining is available at Craft Bistro. This is small-town Americana at its finest. Only 10 minutes outside of town you’ll find Mountain Aire Golf, a gorgeous public course offering 18 holes of beautifully-maintained fairways, with amazing scenery and reasonable prices.
The peaceful New River is another major attraction in Ashe County, offering water adventures such as kayaking, canoeing, tubing, fishing and swimming. Riverside Canoe Outfitters, situated about 15 minutes from your rental, will set you up with equipment and instruction. Other High Country recreation opportunities include hunting, zip-lining, cave exploration and mining for gems. Don’t forget to take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway, America's most beautiful road, with some of the country’s most awe-inspiring views and photo opps.

A wonderful place to set up home base, enjoy the serenity of the mountains, watch the wildlife and enjoy yourself. The house was clean and well stocked with games, books, anything you need for a night of entertainment. Spacious rooms, a big kitchen, and homey feel to the entire place. Wifi worked great the entire time, we had 2+ people working from home on video calls every day and had no issues. Easy to get into West Jefferson or to any other activities around, overall great location. Awesome view of the stars at night. Sunrise Mountain house was the perfect get-away for friends (and dogs). I'm not sure we left the porch for very long. The area around the house is made for living outdoors. The house itself has a peaceful, well-loved feeling about it. It gave us a good place to make our own memories. It was clean, and well-stocked but not overly fussy. We were visiting the area for the Grayson Highlands 50 mile race and this house was the perfect “home base” for our family and friends! Sleeping room for everyone and there was anything we could possibly need in the kitchen. Plenty of gathering areas inside and outside…it felt like being at home. Beautiful home atop mountain, scenic views. We were able to accommodate our large family for a great getaway. The checkin and checkout were easy.. Information regarding local amenities were conveniently located in the folder in the kitchen. Absolutely just a great place to stay. The location, the home itself, the amenities, everything... just great. Our family had the best weekend searching for our Christmas tree. Sunrise Mountain was perfect for our annual trip with friends and our dogs. The house was in a perfect location for exploring Grayson Highlands Park and biking the Virginia Creeper Trail. The house had every thing we needed and more. The kitchen was very well equipped. The only small appliance missing was a crockpot, but I always bring mine. We enjoyed the outdoor fireplace. The sunrises were beautiful from the front porch. The beds were very comfortable. We appreciated that there was cable TV and we could watch a little college football on a Saturday night. The home has plenty of puzzles, games, and books to enjoy. Overall this would be a perfect home for several couples, or a family vacation. The home was clean, kitchen well equipped, comfortable beds, good linens and a fabulous front porch. We enjoyed coffee in the coolness of the mornings and late afternoon and evening gatherings as we watched the horses come up to visit. Easy contact with company to repair dehumidifier issue that was readily taken care of in just a few hours. The only suggestion I have is for a light, battery operated vacuum to clean floors quickly or perhaps a broom. We ended up buying a broom as it was easy to use for quick cleanup. Adequate room and lovely yard made this place perfect for our family vacation. Thanks!

A great home for three generations to enjoy! Plenty of space! Wonderful house layout….best parts are the front porch (which we loved on), night time fires on the patio, and fabulous meals out of a well equipped kitchen! What a fabulous house! We really enjoyed our stay at Sunrise Mountain- the setting is breathtaking, the house beautiful and incredibly well equipped. We enjoyed exploring the surrounding area with visits to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses Cone Memorial Park, Elk Shores river beach and more. We would definitely recommend this location for a group of friends or two families holidaying together. This was great for 6 adults and 5 children. The kids loved roaming the outside finding a snake skin and frogs and toads and just being kids. Enjoyed our long weekend in Grassy Creek. Off the beaten path but close enough to the New River and Jefferson /West Jefferson to get to things as needed. Enjoyed tubing, hiking, cooler weather.
